About the Founder


Heather C. Conklin

Heather C. Conklin is the Founder at SPOT Strategies™.  Over the past 15 years, she has worked with various public, private, and non-profit organizations.

Heather’s work addresses effective communication and skills to support building civic engagement and leadership, particularly among the younger generations.  Her expertise includes civil dialogue, political communication, public policy, and advocacy.  Having conducted research across various policy areas, including healthcare, environmental sustainability, agriculture, law, and education, gives her a unique understanding of key issues. 

Heather’s previous experience includes serving as the Director of Business Development for Medi/Nuclear Corporation, Director of Research & Development with sustainable agriculture company, Shur Farms, Researcher with the Center for Sustainable Suburban Development and California Department of Justice, and as a member of several research teams, including a team studying international environmentalism in Brazil.

Heather holds a M.A. in Political Science (emphasis in Research Methods) from the University of California at Riverside, M.P.A. from the University of Southern California, and B.A. in Communication from the University of California at Davis.  She has received numerous awards and scholarships for her academic achievement, community service, and leadership.

Heather is an active member of the community and enjoys volunteering with several nonprofit organizations, including TERI, Inc., San Diego County Animal Shelter, and the Surfrider Foundation.  She also enjoys spending time with her five rescue animals, including a deaf Pitbull named Dosha, and is an avid runner and yogi.
