About the Founder
Heather C. Conklin
Heather C. Conklin is the Founder at SPOT Strategies, a social impact firm helping organizations and campaigns build public engagement to support positive change. Her work addresses effective communication, skills development, and connection to support building civic engagement, public engagement in science and civic leadership. Her expertise includes political and science communication, public policy, civil dialogue, advocacy, and research design and methods. Having conducted research across various policy areas, including healthcare, environmental sustainability, agriculture, law, and education, gives her a unique understanding of key issues.
Heather’s experience includes serving as the Director of Business Development for Medi/Nuclear Corporation, Director of Research & Development with sustainable agriculture company, Shur Farms, Researcher with the Center for Sustainable Suburban Development and California Department of Justice, and as a member of several research teams, including a team studying international environmentalism in Brazil. She has worked across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
Heather holds a M.A. in Political Science (emphasis in Research Methods) from the University of California at Riverside, M.P.A. from the University of Southern California, and B.A. in Communication from the University of California at Davis. She has received recognition for her academic achievement, community service, and leadership.
Heather serves as a Team Member with the Science Communication Journal Club and is an active member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and Run Women Run. She is also involved in the community and enjoys volunteering with several nonprofit organizations, including the San Diego County Animal Shelter and Surfrider Foundation. Heather enjoys spending time with her four rescue animals, including a deaf Pitbull named Dosha, and is an avid runner and yogi.
